US Inks New Press Doctor 98 Software Draws Enthusiastic Response from Printing Community
Carlstadt, NJ August 10, 1998 Color a problem? Having to deal with the dreaded set-off? Want to improve print quality and consistency? Printers across the country are using US Inks recently released Press Doctor 98 software to solve these printing problems and enhance pressroom operations.
"The Press Doctor series has been very useful to us," reports J.R. Werkmeister, Quality Assurance Manager of The Fort Worth Star . "Sometimes we forget what makes things work. Press Doctor software reminds us to get back to basics and do things right. Its a real problem-solving tool."
Described by US Ink as a "cold-set printers Bible," Press Doctor 98 software is an interactive encyclopedia containing answers to common and not so common lithographic printing problems. Subjects range from the simple: What is Dot Gain? to the complex: Correcting Ink and Water Balance. What's more, related topics are "hyperlinked" so you can work through the various facets of a subject sequentially.
"We recognized the value of accumulating the experience and expertise of a variety of ink and newspaper professionals, synthesizing this information, and then making it available to printers in an easy-to-use format," explains Dennis Cheeseman, US Ink Director of Customer Service and the driving force behind the Press Doctor software. "The Press Doctor series not only helps printers solve existing problems but it makes them aware of what they can do to avoid problems. In this sense, its a very proactive piece of software."
Since its introduction in 1993, the Press Doctor series has served as an important educational resource to the printing industry. The 1998 version contains new printing topics as well as enhanced graphics. In addition, the 1998 version is now compatible with MAC, UNIX and PCs. Future editions will contain new topics to help printers further enhance their operations.
"As we accumulate more experience or new ideas, well plug that information into future version of Press Doctor software," adds Larry Lepore, US Ink Vice President of Operations. "Whats more, as color plays an increasingly important role in the newspaper industry, our customers, through the medium of Press Doctor 98, will be able to add a new component to their quality-control program."
Accessing Press Doctor 98 software is both free and easy. The CD can be ordered via US Inks website at http://www.usink.com,downloaded from the website or ordered directly from Dennis Cheeseman at 1-800-423-8838.
